LARA RSL Sub Branch - ANZAC Day Dawn Service - 25 April 2019

 Dawn Service

The Lara RSL Sub Branch will be hosting the Dawn Service in Lara at the front of the RSL building on 25 April 2019 beginning in darkness at 6.00 am.

Car Parking

There will be NO parking on the RSL grounds. Suggested parking would be the Lara train station car park together with the surrounding areas. Disabled passengers can be ‘dropped off’ at the main entry to the RSL building.

Site Safety

The Dawn Service is a standing ceremony (with the exception of seating provided for the elderly and/or disabled), conducted in the dark prior to sunrise; accordingly, the temperature is likely to be cold. We ask all visitors to be aware of their surroundings as the ground may be uneven or slippery in the early hours of the morning. We therefore advise caution when entering and moving around the site, particularly with the size of the crowd anticipated in attendance. In the event of an emergency and or likely evacuation our ‘wardens’ will usher everyone towards the area on the Rennie Street side of the RSL building.

Seating will be provided for special guests, VIPs, the elderly and disabled people. Ushers will be on duty to guide people to relevant seating. Children are able to use left hand, front side for best view.

Toilet Facilities

Mobile toilet facilities for the general public will be located on the grassed area, on the Rennie Street side of the RSL building. Disabled toilet facilities are available in the RSL building.

First Aid

St John Ambulance will be providing first aid services and will be located on the grassed area, on the Rennie Street side of the RSL building.

General Information

You should allow plenty of time to arrive at the ceremony given the limited parking facilities and expected crowd numbers. This is an informal but solemn ceremony with visitors standing in the RSL precinct. On-site lighting will be provided until 5.50 am. It is suggested that attendees wear warm clothing and bring a small torch (we would appreciate that your torch not be used during the ceremony). At the conclusion of the Dawn Service, Anzac Day memorabilia will be on sale in the foyer of the RSL.

Wet Weather

The ceremony will still go ahead during inclement weather. Attendees should bring an umbrella/rain coat if needed.

‘Gunfire Breakfast’

At the conclusion of the ceremony (at approx. 6.40 am) a breakfast of bacon/ egg/ sausage/ bread with tea and coffee (and a small tot of rum – for those of appropriate age) will be available for a small donation of $2. Breakfast will be served at the rear of the RSL building and seating will be available.

The Lions Club of Lara and the Lara Rotary Club will be kindly assisting the RSL with the cooking and serving of the ‘Gunfire Breakfast’.

Open Day - 25th April

The Lara RSL Sub Branch has an Open Day between 12 noon and 4pm and you are welcome to attend. Bar facilities and a BBQ lunch available for members and guests.
